BELLA GAIA live performances feature a 45-minute full dome and/or
HD presentation, with live music.
Created by classically trained violinist and producer Kenji Williams, BELLA GAIA features a live performance by Kenji against a large-screen backdrop of orbiting visualizations of earth from space and earthbound imagery that explores our cultural heritage trough sight and sound. The stunning earth imagery, generated by NASA/MODIS satellites, directed by Astrovisualization Artist Carter Emmart and rendered by Sciss' Uniview, provides an exquisite simulation of the astronaut's view from space.
BELLA GAIA is a powerful entertainment and educational outreach vehicle for planetariums, science centers, universities, government agencies and other institutions that wish to convey a broader world view that the destiny of humans and our planet Earth are inextricably linked. The deeply engaged audience can also participate in educational modules that supplement this moving experience with additional context on climate change, environmental responsibility, cultural heritage, and multiculturalism.
"BELLA GAIA is Just Beautiful. It really felt like I was back in space."
- Piers Sellers, NASA Astronaut, Spacewalker (STS-112 Atlantis, STS 121 Discovery)
"Bella Gaia offers a uniquely interactive presentation of the natural and human forces at work on our world. Most people have never seen our world this way ,... Bella Gaia is far more than a visual experience; it is a powerfully imaginative, emotional, and cultural experience... The effect on the audience is profoundly moving"
- David Herring, EPO Project Manager, Earth Sciences Division, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (now with NOAA).
BELLA GAIA premiered in November 2007 at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Gates Planetarium to four sold-out audiences. Since then, BELLA GAIA has been performed at:
• Yuri’s Night Festival, NASA Ames.
• NASA’s Goddard EPO Colloquium.
• the Opening Ceremony for the International Planetarium Society Conference at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago.
• the Smithsonian Institutions’ Folklife Festival, NASA 50th Anniversary: NASA Galaxy Stage on the Mall in Washington, DC.
• the opening ceremonies of International Astronautical Congress Conference in Glasgow, to an audience of 3,000, including space agency heads and space industry professionals.
• the ASTC Conference (Association of Science and Technology Centers), to the leaders of museum and science centers.
