LUNAR RACING CHAMPIONSHIP BY VIRTUEPLAY

Lunar Racing Championship is an exciting, real-time, immersive theater experience that engages two teams of Lunar Racers in an exciting lunar competition. This is sports in space; you might call it NASCAR meets NASA for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The game uses the highest available resolution moon data (from the Clementine mission) coupled with synthesized and hand created detail maps in areas of interest (Apollo Landing sites, and the poles of the moon). The game utilizes Virtue Art’s proprietary physics and 3-D rendering engine, RADE. Effects such as gravity, lunar dust and the bright surface of the moon have been reproduced to a high level of fidelity. Racers have horizontal and vertical thrusters, and an on-board Reaction Control System that helps users to maintain control in one-sixth gravity on the dusty surface of the moon.

The game is currently in development for digital planetariums, and will include support for local and regional competitions and accompanying lesson plans.
